About the studio
A cottage studio on a Midtown side street
Three stylists, three chairs, and enough time in every appointment to get your hair right.
Jolie opened Azalea & Oak in 2019 in a converted cottage on a Midtown side street, with two chairs and a shampoo bowl she plumbed in herself.
There are three chairs now, a porch where people wait with sweet tea, and a rule that nobody gets rushed.

The stylists
Jolie
Owner and color lead
Jolie trained in Birmingham and spent eight years behind someone else's chair before opening her own. She does most of the studio's color correction and will tell you honestly how many sessions a big change takes.
Mae
Cuts and curls
Mae grew up with curls nobody knew how to cut, which is why she learned. She cuts curly hair dry, one curl at a time, and does most of the studio's silk presses.
Rosa
Blowouts and bridal
Rosa books the bridal parties and keeps the Saturday blowout chair full. She has pinned updos for Mardi Gras balls, proms, and a few hundred weddings between Mobile and Fairhope.
From the chair
Recent work, pinned up the way it is on the wall by the shampoo bowl.
